DefeXtiles

DefeXtiles is a textile fabrication technique that produces thin and flexible fabrics on standard 3D printers. The method controls under-extrusion so that small globs form with fine strands between them. The resulting periodic gaps give a woven appearance, breathability, flexibility and stretch, even with rigid materials such as polylactic acid. The fabric is printed perpendicular to the print bed, so pleated, curved and complex shapes can be made. Applications include garments, tangible interfaces and toys.

New York

Unisex scarves with unique digitally-printed contemporary patterns produced using a bespoke software programme called MovISee that uses body movement to reconstruct digital data such as photos and reveal organic details not possible solely by computer programming. The software enables the designer to create asymmetrical and non-repeat patterns, resulting in multifaceted and playful scarves that can be worn in different ways according to ones mood or occasion, and are unlike any other products in the textiles or fashion accessories market.

Effect Of Paradox

Effect Of Paradox is a textile print design created for fashion products. The pattern shows the glittering shapes of bioluminescent plankton on the sea, drawn as clear blue flowers in bloom. The motif was made with a graphic tablet, and overlapping layers give a mysterious underwater effect. One repeat measures 180 by 130 millimetres, and colour and scale can be adjusted. The pattern is printed on satin by digital textile printing and can be applied to blouses, dresses, scarves and bags. The intent is to share the beauty of recovered nature.

Random Puff

Random Puff is a novel puffer that uses 4D embroidery puffs for insulation. Puffs are initially fabricated flat and pop up into domes when exposed to heat. The activated puffs then trap air between the outer environment and the wearer’s body to keep them warm. The development involves the creation of a library of 4D embroidery material interactions between active fibers and static fabrics. Designers and developers can use computational design tools to work collaboratively with end-users, creating novel textile and softgood designs that are high-tech fashion, personalized and sustainable.

The Last Blooming

To grasp something logically subversive, to turn a seemingly complex definition into a simple exploration of the relationship between "started and finished", the dead flowers become the designer's main material to express the vivid blooming. They are still staying to bloom and show the final beauty. The harmonious repeat and vibrant motifs give the layout more potential expression. The double layers fabrics, the top is chiffon and the back is cotton, create the shift looking when the wind comes. The transparent looking of chiffon contributes to The Last Blooming more attractive and mysterious.

Weaving

Weaving is an interactive silk scarf that can be rearranged by the wearer. The square scarf measures 1000 by 1000 millimetres. Two tapes cross the body of the scarf in a warp and weft arrangement, drawn from traditional Chinese weaving methods. By pulling the tapes in four directions, the user changes the pattern and can form up to 16 different visual combinations. The design moves the silk scarf from a flat surface to a three-dimensional form. Digital printing is used for the patterns, which remain aligned in every combination.
